Pic #3 Pie shaped or semi triangle, stainless steel,
5 1/2 inches long by 4 inches wide with
1 1/2 inches at 90% bend at what would be the pie crust.
Leaves 4 inches showing, with holes drilled for license bracket.
For license plate lite installation, leave top side about
1 or 1 1/2 inches longer. Auto zone has a light that is a perfect
fit, reasonably priced.
One hole drilled at narrow part. Leave some shoulder for
strength to attach holder to bottom shock mount bolt.
I took pair of visegrips & turned down the edges all way
around til I got to the bend, at the pie crust for added
strength & it looks better.

chrome bullets to mine. My finger is covering hole that
connects to shock bolt.

When all is said & done, you will have to take a hack saw
& cut off the chrome bracket that your plate was on originally.

VERTICAL PLATE SIDE-MOUNT

This can be made of aluminum or stainless. This one was made
of 1/8” aluminum scrap that I picked up from a local machine
shop. (Make sure that you use a weldable aluminum. If not, cut
some ½” x ½” aluminum pieces that about the same length as
the angled edge that buts up against the backing plate. Then
drill, tap, and countersink for stainless flat head screws.)

I first determined where it was going to be mounted (height
and angle)
. I then sketched a pattern for the shock plate on
a piece of cardboard (on manila folder). I then cut it out,
punched a hole in it to mount on the lower shock bolt. From
there I tweaked it until I had the size and shape that I wanted

Note A: These angles are to be determined by you to conform to
the fit and appearance you desire. The bottom edge of my plate
is parallel with the ground. *This angled edge which is to be
welded to the Backing Plate needs to be square. I positioned
this edge at the same angle as my stock shock.

Next I removed my license plate and traced around it on
another piece of cardboard. Next I added some area
around it so I could mount a chrome frame to it. Last I
added some area to the top of it so that there would be a
spot to mount a plate light. I then cut it out.

I traced both templates onto the aluminum and cut them
out with a band saw. I filed down the rough edges
(rounded them) and then started sanding them to smooth
them out. Next comes drilling the holes.

On the shock plate, a 25/64 hole is needed for clearance to
mount on lower shock bolt.

Note B: Be careful here because this
bracket needs to clear the lower part of the shock. Also,
make sure that the edge to be welded is good and square

The next step is to drill the mounting holes in the backing
plate. Here you have two choices. You can drill and tap your
backing plate for a ¼-20 screw or you can drill clearance
holes for them. Next drill the holes to mount the light
assembly. (The holes I have listed will should fit the
Raider “Cat-Eye” light assembly #31-6588 which I purchased
for $ 19.95).

Next I chose to sand and polish my plates before they were
to be welded. I will do this again after I get the complete
assembly back and then clear-coat it. Next you just run the
wiring down the driveshaft housing, then up and back under
the seat to the connections on the rear fender. Just pigtail
your connection or splice in and you are done.
