Starting The
VS Intruders
Since we get new members all the time, AND, one of the first problems they bring up is the difficulty in starting a cold, sat a long time, engine, I'm gonna repost starting instructions here and bring this message back to the top of the list every couple weeks. Adding comments won't be necessary, but it won't hurt anything if you do.
How to start your cold 700/750/800/1400 Intruder engine. Follow these steps exactly and it'll likely solve the problem you're reading this post for.
ALL:
1. Leave your ignition key in the off position, kill switch in the run position.
2. Shift your bike into first gear, pull in the clutch, and rock it forward and back until you break loose the "glued stuck" clutch plates.
3. Shift your bike back into neutral.
4. Set your choke full on (for 700/750/800 engines, be sure the choke is pulled out ALL the way and stays there).
5. Turn your gas valve on.
6. Turn ignition switch on.
(Extra step for 1400s Only): Press starter button WITHOUT pulling in clutch handle. Wait for fuel pump buzzing to slow down indicating your carbs have been primed, then release starter button.
7. Pull in clutch lever and press starter button WITHOUT twisting the throttle. Do not touch the throttle until after the motor is running.
