AutoZone Pipes
VS800Intruder & VS1400 Intruder
This is an alternative
to expensive aftermarket slip on exhaust systems.
Many members from the Intruder Alert Cafe have recently performed
this modification with sucess.
Head to the local AutoZone

When I put my
AZ pipes on my 1400, I put 6" slits on the
mounting end. They slid on all the way almost to the foot bracket.
No movement whatsoever and took me a good bit of pulling and
tugging to get them back off. The only thing I would change is
probably to reduce the slits to 4" after my experience. If you have
some play in them, I would slit them and then use a clamp on them
around the head pipe and then use some type of mount if you're going
to keep them on permanently. I'm not sure about 800s, but seems
like I've read that the head pipes' diameter is just a little smaller than
on the 1400. But regardless, if you have play in the pipes, don't ride
much, if at all. It's my understanding that the headpipes are fairly
fragile and if you have play in the AZs, you might damage them.

This
is what worked for me, in order to use the original clamps and
have the end ports farther behind me. I am sure there are
improvements to come. A single adaptor would be preferred, but
haven't found it, YET. These guys can be insterted into each other as
far as needed to get the correct gap for the clamp. The smaller adaptor
should be inserted into the larger one as far as possible
(AZ wouldn't appreciate me hammering the two together in their
show room). I did cut a set of slots in the adaptor that attaches to the header.

Baffles
can and some would say, should be installed in these pipes
to get the most benefits from them.
Big City Thunder sells baffles
J&P Cycles offers baffles too.
