VS1400 Intruder
You'll have to remove the backrest, open the toolkt compartment, undo the bolt that holds the rear seat secure ( 10mm socket works better than a screwdriver )
Pull the rear seat towards the front of the bike. Undo the 2 bolts that hold the bracket for the front of the rear seat & the back of the front seat ( 10mm socket ).
Pull front seat and disconnect the 2 wiring harnesses attached @ the bottom.
2 bolts ( 10mm ) hold the bottom of the gas tank. Remove then and tip the tank upwards.
See the hoses connected? Mark them so you can replace them properly and turn the fuel off ( flat screwdriver )
Pull the hoses and then pull the tank backwards until it slips from the holder in the front.
Now you can easily access the channel under the tank and start to install the divider. ( you might not have to pull the tank or the gas lines off to do the job if you have someone helping you )
Reassemble. I usually spray some WD-40 to the rubber gasket that holds the front of the tank to facillitate sliding it back into place. Re-assemble in reverse order and you are done.
BTW
when you take the rear seat off, why don't you change the bolt that holds the
rear seat.
1: Head to the hardware store and pick
up (1) 1.5 inch bolt, (2)
nuts, (1) locking washer,
(1) wingnut.
2: Drill the hole where the original bolts
goes ( if you have ) to make the bolt fit and bring
it up from Under the fender.
3: Attach the 2 nuts and locking washer. This will
keep it from vibrating loose and when you put the rear seat back on use the
wingnut to secure it.
Next time it'll be easier and quicker and you won't have as many problems when
removing and re-attaching the seat in the future. Do this removal enough times,
and sooner or later, you'll either strip the threads on the original screw or
the hole itself.
Ask me how I know, as I remove my saddlebags when I wash my bike (
cpl times a week )
